IAAF World Youth Championships 2007 OSTRAVA
DAY 3 {July 13}
200 m M., 1st Round. Heat 1: First - Ramil GULIYEV, AZE. “ This heat was OK, I did not mind the wind. I am not afraid of Ramon McKenzie or Nickel Ashmeade. I feel as a favorite.“.
200 m M., 1st Round, Heat 7: Second - Martin RICAR, CZE: I am happy that I qualified because it is a compensation for me after my failure at 100 m dash. I was thinking about the qualifivation before the race because I had the second best time of the heat. But I think we had it easier since the two guys were discqualified after the false start.
200 m M, 1st round, Heat 9: First - Václav ZICH, CZE: The wind was horrible. I will be satisfied with a place in the final. Then I will try for more.
Shot Put W, Heptathlon, Group B: Nikola Ogrodnikova, CZE: I do not know what happened. I felt perfect before the shot put, probably because I was too excited. Yes, it is a pitty, but I want to continue, I want to fight with myself. I am young, and I still need more experiences.
400 m Hurdles M, 1st round, Heat 1: First - PC BENEKE, RSA: I feel great, I tried to run rexaled, thinking about rythm betweet hurdles, and I had a lot of power also for last 100meter. So as I said, I hope I will have enought power for next rounds...
400 m Hurdles W, Final: Gold - Dalilah MUHAMMAD, USA: I enjoyed the race. It was very exciting but hard race. I come from New York and this is the first time I am abroad. I like athletics very much. But I also like dancing. I would like to go study at the university later, like everyone. I train since I was 7. I will celebrate the title with ice cream and caces.
400 m W, Final: Gold - Yuliya BARALEY, UKR: I am happy to win, it is so unbelievable. I did not believe I won. I believed that I won before but it was just a prayer. I wanted so much to win. I am 17 and I live with my family in Dnjepropetrovsk. I like Ostrava but I was a bit dissapointed that there were only few spectators in the crowd.
400 m W, Final: Bronze - Alexandra ŠTUKOVÁ, SVK: YEAH!! Great, I am so happy. This is my first medal from big competition. I felt a little bit tired after 1st round and SF and I was afraid that I will not have enought power in this final. Big support for me was also that my family was here for all three days. Also my compatriots helped me and supported me.
400 m M, Final: Gold - Christopher CLARKE, GBR: I feel great, my first individual gold from big competition. First 200m was fast, I was chasing a Russian and after 250m I felt I had a chance to win. I felt strong back wind in the second quarter of the race.
Surely I will celebrate it. "Beers and women"(laught). No I am too young for both (laught).
Next season I will try to run around 46.10 and prepare for junior championships.
High Jump W, Final: Gold - Natalya MAMLINA, RUS: I have great feelings about my gold medal. I did not expect that I could jump over the last high {189cm - WYL}. I am 16, I live in Moscow and I train since I was 10. I think that Yelena Slesarenko has a great technique and that is why she is my idol. And also because she is from Russia.
800 m M, Final: Gold - Geoffrey KIBET, KEN: I am happy to winn. It was very hard race because the people around me were blocking me. I tried to run faster but it was not possible. Then I realised that I could get out of the blocking only in the home streight because it is a streight lane. I managed to escape and finaly I won. I come from Nakuru, Kalenjin sub-group Kipsigis as the star runner Kipketer comes from. I just met Kipketer yesterday for the first time. I am not in relation with the other Kenyan runners named Kibet. It is just a common name in Kenya. I only started to run competitions last year. Before I was running to school as a kid - it was 3 km over the hills which are in the altitude of nearly 3000 m. I also have a perfect trainer David Kosgei.
Discus Throw, Qualification Group A: First - Marin PREMERU, CRO: I did not sleep very good last nights, I do not know why. My technic was not good, I hope it will be better in the final.
200 m W, OCTY, Heat 1: Third - Katerina CACHOVÁ, CZE: I waited the time would be worse. But I am very satisfied. That was a pitty that Nikol had three false attempts in the Shot Put because we are friends. We cried together in a restroom area. I am afraid of Long Jump and Javelin tomorrow. But I will do my best.
1500 m W, Final: Gold - Sammary CHEROTICH, KEN: The tactics for this race was to run fast from the beginning, then to hold the group and to run fast in the end. I am 15 and I come from the city of Kiricho in Kenya. This is the first year I am competing. I come from the area where running is like a hobby. Everybody runs and many famous athletes come from this area. My idol is Catherine Ndereba. Except athletics I like reading.
1500 m W, Final: Silver - Jordan HASAY, USA: I enjoyed the running here. This is my second fastest time ever. I am so happy about silver. I felt big pressure on my person in the USA but I ignore it. I am here to have a good time. It is perfect to see other great international athletes. I knew that Kenyans would work as a team. But this fact only motivated me because I knew that I was a thread for them. At the end I want to say that in the future I want to be as good as my idol Meseret Defar. My hair is 24 inches long.
2000 m Steeplechase M, Final: Gold - Legese LAMISO, ETH: I am happy to win. Ostrava is very nice city.
